Top 5 Friday: Games That Make Us Smile

kitty-smile

One of the the truths of life is that at some point, everybody is going to have a bad day. Another beautiful truth is that games make people happy. Combine these two things and you get games to make you smile when you are feeling down. For this blog post we take a look at some happy games that always put a smile on our faces.

I Don’t Even Game - I smile just THINKING about this game. The developer, Peter Polack, draws the funniest stick figures around. The game itself makes no sense, but is hilarious. “slow down, sir! I found spikeys!” If I could take a dream vacation, I would go to I Don’t Even Town and giggle myself stupid.
Kill the Wabbits - A little disturbing, perhaps, but Kill the Wabbits, is adorably sadistic. It makes me smile, it makes me LOL, and it makes me want to hunt wabbits!

Red Remover - I can’t help but grin when I see the smiley face of success when I successfully complete a level. It doesn’t hurt that they also cheer YAY! :) this is me right now.

Kitten Cannon - No matter how bad you think your life is, it can be worse than this cat’s. While I’d never smile at a cat’s misfortune irl, when you see this kitty go flying by it’s hard not to show off  a grin!

This is The Only Level Too - There is just something about that little blue elephant that fills me up with joy! He’s small and he’s blue and hes running around all crazy like! I’m smiling just talking about it.

This is what the little elephant would look like irl.

Our favorite little elephant is back in sequel to one of my favorite games of all time. This Is The Only Level Too gives you more of the same. You get another great set of levels to play through and a hidden Easter egg which unlocks a super hard mode.

I have to once again give it up to tasselfoot who not only beat this game in an insane time, but also brought it to life as he himself worked on a lot of the level design. Way to go tasselfoot! We salute you!

Game Gossip: Facebook Gaming At Its Finest

Raspberry Fields Forever

Raspberries are a very high-maintenance plant to be growing on one’s farm. They need to be checked every two hours if you do not want them to wilt. My friend Kyle almost lost his favored fruit one afternoon, having gone to lunch at our dining hall, with only minutes to spare. We grabbed our to-go trays, and hustled out of the building, sprinting back to our dormitory. But alas, by the time we had made it back to his room, it was too late. His raspberries were gone. Kyle should have brought his laptop along with him. He could have easily accessed his FarmVille account over the green beans and sloppy joes that were being served.

Kyle is among the nearly 60 million participants in the real-time, social networking game, FarmVille. Although there has been noticeable decline in the popularity of the farm simulation, it still reigns as the most popular game on Facebook. Other simulation games have branched from Farmville, such as FrontierVille and PetVille. These games are demanding; pets must be fed, and plants must be tended to. I mean, if Facebook users weren’t already glued to the screen, waiting for newsfeed developments, they sure are now.

Another interactive game that has gained a striking popularity is Mafia Wars. Mafia Wars has its players complete “jobs” to develop different personalities of their character. All of these games are progressed by time, as well as interaction with other players. As one of the major draws to these games is the interaction with other players, Facebook serves an easy and accessible medium on which to play.

The first games to be introduced to the world of Facebook gaming were on a much smaller scale. One of the first larger games to be fashioned for the social networking site was Texas HoldEm Poker. It was put out by Zynga in 2008, and is now the second most popular game on Facebook. Within the past year, the number of Facebook users who play games, in general, as well as the number of different games have significantly increased.

Based on the current success of Facebook games, it is safe to assume that this industry will continue to gain popularity. The aforementioned social interaction incorporated into these games is thought to be a major factor in their prominence. Facebook gaming adds another dimension to not just gaming, but also social networking as a whole. Connecting people around the country and around the world, social networking games as a whole are now, practically, a fixture in entertainment.

The Jersey Shore is now available from coast to coast.

The Jersey Shore is now available from coast to coast.

Other aspects of pop culture are even being ever infused into the world of Facebook gaming. We see this in MTV’s latest addition to the Facebook Games family, The Jersey Shore Game. This game is based on the wildly popular MTV show that depicts aspects of “guido” and “guidette” life. The game allows you to fist pump and throw pickles at your friends on Facebook. CLICK HERE to play the Jersey Shore game on Facebook!

So, whether you’re plowing your plot of land, or you’re laying down a full house in a game of Poker, you can always find something to occupy your time with Facebook games. You can find out what games your friends are playing, and interact with them within the game. If you’re anything like my friend Kyle, you might have to start scheduling your day around it.

Top 5 Friday: Platform Games

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Now that's a fine platform!

Today our blogger Anya breaks down five of her favorite platform games.

Platformer games are challenging, fun, and wait for it… totally addicting! Take, for example, Fancy Pants Adventure. A combo of stick figures, challenges, and running? Oh, and literally the most amazing MC Hammer pants since MC Hammer himself. Epic win!

Or how about Gangsta Bean? While the food may be “fast”, it’s no match for The Bean!
Oh, low-fi platformer, you ask? I bring you Adventures of the Dude . This dude is the dude of all dudes, and he will out dude you in this game. Dude.
My favorite aspect of platformer games are the creativity. We see a multitude of different platformer games here at AddictingGames, but Go To Hell stuck out in my mind. The creativity, the hurdles, the all around insane concept? Platformer heaaaaven.

Lastly we have Trap Master, one of the newest additions to AddictingGames. It’s twisted, it’s dark, and it’s a platformer. Play it!
