Top 5 Friday: Rock Star Fantasy Games

I WANNA ROCK!

I WANNA ROCK!

Alright, gamers, let’s have a heart to heart. How many of you are band nerds? Perhaps show choir nerds? Do you spend your days studying your John Philip Sousa pieces, preparing for the next band concert, or diligently perfecting your jazz hands? I won’t hold it against you, you guys, as I was also a complete and total band nerd. I happily signed up for marching band, and was usually the first to arrive in band class. I could play all my major scales on my saxophone before most other students, and used my break time to study and practice arpeggios. Never let anyone tell you being a band nerd is anything less than cool, because you know what we have that other people don’t?

The ability to relate to rock stars.

No matter how small, every band nerd has a secret desire to be a rock star. Whether it’s Lady GaGa, Avenged Sevenfold, or Josh Groban, we all want to be on stage performing, having the audience loving every second of our performance. And truthfully, we understand the pressure rock stars face, we know the level of dedication it takes, and we know how many bad decisions it takes to rock out with your socks out.

So, dear gamers, here are the top five rock star fantasy games on AddictingGames. Hey, if RPG dorks can have their moments, why can’t we??

5- My Party Band

Ah, bass, drums, and guitar. So simple, yet so effective. Imagine, if you can, performing on a stage with your two best friends, bringing the rock and being the roll. You and your buddies are the ultimate rock stars in this game, and the sweet riffs you get to pick from solidify that fact!

4- Celebrity Smackdown

No true rock star has made it until they have a public feud with a celebrity. It confirms your ability to kick some butt, and rock out while doing so! Did your tuba get stolen by a jock? Were you walking to your locker for wearing your band or choir uniform? Get your revenge out fantasy style in Celebrity Smackdown!

3- Stick Band
Similar to My Party Band, but just that much more challenging. Test your rocking out skills with Stick Band, and be the ultimate Stick Rocker!

2- Dress to Rock
The best thing about being a rock star is being able to wear crazy clothes, and getting away with it. It also is the most important. Test your rock star style knowledge in Dress to Rock, and wear your Mohawk with pride!

1- Rock Band Rampage
Did you say you didn’t want to see any green M&M’s backstage? Did you request 3-foot lavender candles, and exactly twenty-seven bottles of sparkling water? Were none of these requests met? Well, take your rage out in Rock Band Rampage, and show those show promoters who the rock star of this venue is!!

Developers Corner: Chris Basmajian

Chris on a big rock!

Chris on a big rock!

AddictingGames
is all about the games and the people who make them. Recently I had a chance to get the low down on game developer Chris Basmajian. Check out some of the games he has worked on and what hes doing when hes not crating addicting goodness!

Games I’ve worked on:
The first game I ever made was “50 States“. I’ve worked on some news games, including “Escape Paris“, “ButtSki Lift“, and “Where’s the Naughty Governor“, and some more high-brow intellectual games, like “Hide the Farta in Sparta.” I’m particularly proud of “Attention Hog“, which I made as an art project.

Games I like to play:
I like tower defense games, because they don’t require any hand/eye coordination. I lost my hand/eye coordination in the war.
Likes and Dislikes about making casual games:
I like not having to wear pants to work. Don’t you hate pants? It’s also nice that game projects only last between 3 days and 2 weeks. It’s satisfying to go from an idea to a finished game in such a short amount of time. Nothing kills a perfectly bad idea like careful consideration.
The only thing I dislike about making casual games is having to pretend that I know anything about casual games. There’s so much hip industry jargon bandied about, sometimes I feel like the kid at the prom with the homemade tuxedo.

Other interests:

I make interactive video art, which keeps me pretty occupied when I’m not making games or attempting to mind-meld with my baby daughter.
Advice for people who want to design games:
Don’t let good taste get in the way of great game.

Favorite Food?

The Bacon Shake (patent pending).

Favorite Movie?
Hmm, I don’t have a favorite movie, but I do have a favorite movie theater. I like the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco, they have a huge glass atrium, and you can drink in the balcony.

Have you ever bitten anyone in the butt?

When life bites you in the butt, bite back.

Do you have a website?

Well I hope everybody had an amazing Halloween filled with good times and lots of candy. That however was last week and now we have to move on with our lives and get back to normal. Last Minute Halloween Costumes From AddictingGames

What should I be??

What should I be??

With the big night just 2 days away I’m sure most of you already know what you are going to be for Halloween. However, I know that there are many people out there just like myself who always wait till the last minute to figure out their costume. For this post I’m going to give you some ideas on costumes you can put together from our games using stuff around the house. Here are some great costumes that you can pull off using some of our most classic characters.

red-remover Red Box - Red Remover

This is probably the easiest costume you could ever put together. All you need is a box and then some red paint or markers and a black marker to draw on a face! You can hit the town and tell people all about how you have spent hours trying to get rid of all the red. Find some friends to play along and you guys could make your own live action levels! If you actually do this, shoot a video and send it to us! I’d love to see that!

stick Stick Figure - Stick Wars

The Stick figure is a very under rated Halloween costume! You can be a stick-any thing! All you need is a full set of black clothes, a black ski mask with small eyes cut out or you can black your face out with make-up or face paint. Then grab your favorite weapon and lead your trick or treating party to war as the bravest stick on the block!

zombie TP Mummy - Throw Ancient Stuff

The Toilet Paper Mummy is always in your back pocket if you just can’t think of anything else! This is another fun costume to do as a group because the more mummies running around grunting the better! If you don’t have some extra tp at the house, 4 Packs of toilet paper can be found at most supermarkets or corner stores for around a dollar so the price is right for sure! Once you have your toilet paper, wrap your self up silly and you are good to go!

ghost Ghost - Boo

Probably the most classic Halloween costume ever is the bed sheet ghost. While it may seem lame and plain it’s up to you to make it different. Try using some colorful sheets. You can be a confused ghost or if the sheets have polka-dots you can be a sick ghost! It’s up to you to make the costume great because while you are dressing up as something else, it’s your personality that will shine through. This one is great for scaring little kids too!

So if you still don’t have a costume after this don’t worry! We have 3,000 games on AddictingGames.com and that means tons of different characters are out there to inspire you for this Saturday night. You can’t lose with AG!

Halloween Horror – You play Stevie, a character lost in a mysterious world of ghosts. Jump, dodge, and dash as you make your way to safety. But tread carefully; the ghosts in this game aren’t as harmless as they look!

Pumpkin CarverAddictingGames.com has taken one of the most classic ways to celebrate Halloween and brought it to the web. Now, it’s one of the coolest free online games around this time of year! Rag Doll Zombie Slayer - In this extremely popular shooter, you’ll blast zombies with your shotgun as they attack from high and low. Don’t forget to reload as you try to survive the night! (Warning: If you’re not a fan of cartoon violence, this is one of those online games that isn’t for
you.)

NooBoo Mary the Witch Queen – You’re the sexiest witch around in this cleverly animated game , so it’s no wonder that you’ve got jealous, angry mortals trying to burn your house down. Fend them off with spells, traps, and anything else in your powerful bag of tricks.

Developers Corner: Matt Richez from C.C.C.P.

pp

Matt made this game!

We at AddictingGames are creating a new blog segment entitled, “Developers Corner”!

I had the pleasure of  sitting down with CCCP guru, Matt Richez, and asking a few very important about what it’s like developing awesome hits, such as Pirate Puzzler.

Anya: So, Matt, tell us about yourself, and your company.

Matt Hi I’m Matt, I created a company called C.C.C.P. a few years ago. We worked mostly on serious games and developed casual games before interesting ourselves to the flash game industry. On a side note, I attended a French school of Game Design called Supinfogame before that.

Anya: Fantastic! Well, what games did you make that are on AddictingGames?

Matt: We made Pirate Puzzler, and many new ones on preparation.

Anya: We love that game! How did you get into the flash game industry?

Matt: We were developing with flash for some time for our other projects, and someday I stumbled upon DTD, and I thought “waow, it would be cool to make this kind of games and earn money with them!”.

Anya: Earning money doing something you love? That’s great! What are some of your favorite games?

Matt: DTD. And any RPG/Tactical game I can find, on any platform. And PES.

Anya: Well, thank you for your time, Matt. One last question- If you weren’t in the flash game industry, what would you be doing?

Matt: Making boring apps and/or websites.

Check out Matt’s Game: Pirate Puzzler
